Do you have a passion for food? The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we'd love you to be a part of it.

We’re looking for a Cook to join us. Because we are in a rural area, please think about how you’d be able to get here for work, before applying for the job.

Hours: 950 annualised hours. The working pattern will be 9am to 5pm and generally 2 days per week however at peak times/holiday cover this may increase but we would discuss that directly with the candidate as we are flexible.
This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year

Salary: £12,112.50 pro rata

Duration: Permanent

Potential start date: 4th August 2025

What it's like to work here
As a valued member of our team, you'll be working alongside our experienced and friendly team, who have a passion for producing great food under the guidance of our Head Chef. Your day-to-day will involve preparing, baking, and serving dishes inspired by the National Trust cookbook, with an emphasis on quality, consistency, which all play a key role in delighting our visitors, all within the backdrop of the stunning 14th century moated Bodiam Castle.

We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene which will be an integral part of your daily role. As the role is annualised the hours equate to 2 days per week however may increase at peak times and reduce during the winter months this including occasional weekends and Bank Holidays.

What you'll be doing
As a Cook, your focus will be in the kitchen, helping to prepare and present delicious food from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Your food will be served directly to visitors.

Using the framework of our ‘National Trust Cookbook’, you’ll prepare, measure and mix ingredients. You’ll help with deliveries and with keeping the kitchen clean, to be compliant with health and safety legislation and to make sure that service runs smoothly.

We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
