An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of our ISO15189:2022 accredited laboratory at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. We provide diagnostic and monitoring services to patients across a wide geographical area and support our acute services across both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole General Hospital within the Trust.
We are a supportive Trust interested in developing our employees, all relevant training will be provided and there are opportunities for continuing professional development for the successful applicant.
The One Dorset Pathology service will bring together Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals to deliver a single, efficient and high-quality pathology service. It will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources. The new service is a formal collaboration and is included in one of the 29 national pathology networks known as the ‘South 6’ network that includes: Hampshire Hospitals, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Salisbury and Southampton.
A new £25 million state of the art building has been built at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and officially opened May 2024. A new pathology computer system linking all the pathology laboratories in the county is now up and running and we have recently completed a major analyser refresh across the S6 Network.
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital but you will be required to work across site.

The successful applicant will:
• Be required to act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and also to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
• Responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service that enables high standards of patient care.
• Required to act as a deputy to the section leader (band 7 BMS).
• Assist in the teaching and development of trainee staff and support workers.
• Expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
Participation in the out of hours rota is expected.
