Elmlea Schools encompasses the Elmlea Infant School and Elmlea Junior school. Both schools are renowned for their all-round education. On 1st March 2025, Elmlea Schools Trust became part of the larger Multi-Academy Trust, Russell Education Trust.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strong candidate to join the Property Team at Elmlea Schools as a Caretaker of Elmlea Infant School and Elmlea Junior School. We are looking for an adaptable, flexible and resourceful team member to work within the Property Team. Working across the Elmlea Schools to provide effective property management to the Schools. Some work, particularly during holiday periods, maybe required at Bristol Free School, also part of Russell Education Trust.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The responsibilities of the role include:
• Maintenance and improvement of the school buildings and grounds.
• Efficient site security, ensuring the school remains secure at all times, and checking fire alarms on a regular basis. Liaise as necessary with emergency services.
• Organise contractors for site work and ensure the safe completion of the works whilst the contractors are on site.
• Manage the school facilities, including taking meter readings.
• Managing the school when on duty with regards to the lettings on site.
• Supervising the cleaning staff.
• Be able to manage the school compliance of the equipment and site.
• Undertake annual fire risk assessment.
• Organising contractors for quotations where required.
• Assist with the provision and clearing of resources for teaching lessons or as required by the Senior Leadership Team. This may involve setting up meeting rooms.
• Work as a team member of the property and business team of the school.
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL:
• Be an experienced caretaker, ideally within an educational setting.
• Have sufficient D.I.Y skills to undertake day to day repairs and maintenance of building, including the basic knowledge and operation of school heating system.
• Understanding of the principles of health & safety in a school environment including COSHH.
• Have good time management.
• Have the ability to perform the physical tasks required by the post, including lifting, carrying and pushing various equipment to undertake the duties of the post.
• Have the ability to carry out a range of administrative tasks, including raising order requisitions.
• Have a ‘can do’ attitude with the tasks that come up in any typical school day.
• Have good levels of organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise work at peak times
• Have good communication skills
• Be a team player.
• Have the ability to adhere to working procedures and policies within the school environment.
• Have the ability to relate well to children and adults.
The position is permanent and the staff member will join as soon as possible. The position is for 37 hours per week all year round. The exact hours of the role are to be decided. Salary: NJC 8-12, full time salary range: £25,992 - £27,711
