Location: Cheadle Hulme, SK8 6RQ

Full-time equivalent salary: £27,394 - £28,278 per annum + benefits

Actual take home salary: £23,707 - £24,471 per annum + benefits

Hours of work: Mon to Fri, 8.30am – 4.30pm

Working pattern: Term time only (45 weeks), 37.5 hours per week


Role Summary

Here at Seashell, we provide education and care for children and young adults with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties/disabilities, sensory impairments, communication disorders and autism.

Our Outstanding Royal School Manchester operates from a new state of the art school building based on our campus in Cheadle. With advanced resources and a dedicated team of Therapists, specialist Teachers and TAs, fantastic teaching and learning facilities, staff room, outdoor areas and swimming pool, it provides an excellent working and learning environment to be part of. Our students are aged between 4 and 19, and all follow an individual Seashell curriculum/ ECHP.

We are recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant ideally with SEN experience to join our expert school team.

Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) are an integral part of the school team and perform a unique function that is split between supporting our Teachers with lesson planning and delivery, and providing strategic support across a number of classes to ensure they are resourced correctly with relevant reports and paperwork being kept up to date and compliant. Role Overview

· To complement the Teachers’ delivery of each individual learner’s curriculum and contribute to the development of other support staff, pupils and school policies and strategies.

· To work collaboratively with teaching staff and assist Teachers in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of classroom/teaching resources.

· To supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of Teachers with classes having no more than six learners.

· To support the Head of School in fulfilling the Schools KPI’s.

· Support the Head of School in the implementation of health and safety requirements for the school and ensure the correct processes and training is in place to establish a secure and safe environment for students attending school.


Requirements

· Experience of working with SEN children and young people with complex learning difficulties including PMLD, MSI, sensory impairment or ASC

· Experience of working with and managing students who present with challenging behaviour

· Teaching qualification or willingness to achieve the HLTA qualification – strongly preferred

· Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma - essential

· GCSE English and Maths (grade C/grade 4 or above), or level 2 numeracy and literacy

· Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to write and maintain reports and student notes and communicate effectively with parents/carers/other professionals

· Ability to work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team

· Ability to organise, support and co-ordinate group or individual activities

· Knowledge of communication strategies for non-verbal learners

· Previous experience moving and handling service users who have a range of physical abilities, in a variety of settings including classroom, gym, pool areas, residential units and some restricted spaces
