Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Hitchin
Reports To: Commercial Manager / Director
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee all aspects of cost management and commercial reporting on construction projects. The successful candidate will lead commercial teams, manage project budgets, ensure cost-effectiveness, and provide expert advice on financial and contractual matters across a range of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the full commercial lifecycle of construction projects from pre-contract to final account.
• Prepare tender and contract documentation including bills of quantities.
• Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes and contracts.
• Monitor and control project costs, ensuring value for money is achieved.
• Conduct cost risk analysis and produce accurate cash flow forecasts.
• Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and project reports.
• Advise on legal and contractual matters (JCT/NEC/other standard forms).
• Identify, value, and agree on variations and change orders with clients and subcontractors.
• Attend client meetings, site visits, and progress reviews.
• Support junior surveyors and oversee their professional development.
• Liaise with stakeholders including clients, contractors, consultants, and project managers.
Key Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in quantity surveying, ideally in a senior or lead role.
• Strong knowledge of standard construction contracts (JCT, NEC, etc.).
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in MS Office and quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, CATO).
Desirable Attributes:
• Proven ability to lead commercial aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.
• High attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Experience in residential, commercial, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
• Strong report-writing skills and commercial acumen.
