The University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Lecturer (A) in Film and Media Industries, based in the Film Department, on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Film Department at Southampton has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. We are based within the School of Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and have close interdisciplinary links with other members of the School and the wider University. The University of Southampton has a global reputation for its ability to work collaboratively in delivering world-class education, research and innovation that makes a proven impact on society’s greatest challenges. It is a founding member of the Russell Group, a top 100 global university (QS World Rankings, 2025) and top 20 in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2026).

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in high-quality research activities and will be enthusiastic and flexible in contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as keen to participate fully in the intellectual, academic and public activities of a lively and committed department which prizes collegiality very highly. We invite applications from candidates with proven teaching skills and a PhD in Film, Media, or Creative and Cultural Industry studies and other related areas at time of application, with knowledge and experience of media industry studies. Knowledge and expertise in research and teaching that focuses on Southeast Asia, East Asia, Africa, and/or the Global South will be an advantage.
