Job Title: Electrical Estimator
Location: Bow/Stanstead
Reports to: Estimating Manager / Commercial Manager / Director
Department: Estimating / Commercial
Job Purpose:
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical installations and systems across a range of projects. This includes analyzing drawings, specifications, and tender documents to assess material, labour, and time requirements, and compiling estimates for submission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review tender documentation including drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
• Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
• Conduct site surveys and attend pre-tender meetings when required.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather pricing information and technical details.
• Produce take-offs from drawings and create bills of materials and labour.
• Evaluate and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations for technical compliance and best value.
• Prepare tender adjudication reports and support tender submissions.
• Work closely with the procurement team to secure competitive prices.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of pricing, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Support project handover to the operations team including preparation of cost breakdowns and risk assessments.
• Monitor cost variances and assist with value engineering and cost control during project delivery when required.
Requirements:
Essential:
• Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator in building services, contracting, or construction.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, regulations, and installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Proficient in estimation software (e.g., Trimble/Amtech/ConEst) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable:
• Electrical engineering or related qualification (HNC/HND/NVQ Level 3 or above).
• CSCS card or equivalent.
• Knowledge of current IEE wiring regulations (BS7671).
• Experience in estimating for both design & build and traditional tenders.
