An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Senior Rent Income Officer to join our Revenues Service based at John Muir House in Haddington.

In this key role, you will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality Rent Income service for all Council tenants across East Lothian. Working closely with the Rent Income Team Leader, you will play a vital part in reducing rent arrears and maximising income—ensuring the financial sustainability needed to support and enhance our housing services.

You will be responsible for providing expert guidance, support, and advice to colleagues and external partners. A core part of your role will involve coordinating and monitoring team performance to ensure the service operates efficiently and effectively.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Minimum SVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), or the ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Strong understanding of rent charging processes and debt recovery practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Home / Hybrid Working Consideration

Job Details

Responsible for the delivery of an effective and efficient service to collect Rent income to ensure that the Council has the finances to deliver high quality services to all East Lothian Council tenants. Provide support, guidance and advice to colleagues and external bodies by coordinating and monitoring the Teams performance to maximise efficiency of the service provision.

Ensure customers, the team and services are fully supported and all work is in compliance with the Council's policies, procedures and legislation with a commitment to achieve best value.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
HNC/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and/or relevant working experience

Driving Licence
A current driving licence is desirable.

Level 1 Disclosure Clearance
This role requires Level 1 Disclosure Clearance to allow access to the Public Sector Network. ELC will submit a Police Act Disclosure application on behalf of the preferred candidate and receipt of the subsequent certificate will be required prior to commencement.
