The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe with a national and international reputation for high quality patient care, research, development and education. As physiotherapists we are key members of a multidisciplinary team geared to the rehabilitation of patients undergoing surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in both in and outpatient settings. Oncology provides a challenging environment for developing a number of skills including clinical reasoning, communication and multi-professional working. Ongoing professional training and development is encouraged and supported.

We are looking for a band 5 physiotherapist to join our physiotherapy team on the Chelsea site. You will have the opportunity to develop your inpatient physiotherapy skills and build your knowledge within the field of oncology with support from the senior team. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months and you will gain experience across the cancer pathway including prehabilitation, rehabilitation, inpatient and CCU settings.

1.1 The Band 5 Physiotherapist provides a high quality cost-effective physiotherapy service for the people with cancer. As a qualified practitioner, the postholder is a source of knowledge and expertise for patients, relatives and colleagues of all disciplines. With the support of the Band 7 and Band 6 physiotherapists, they will provide specialist assessment and treatment to adults in the acute setting with rehabilitation needs across the pathway of treatment and different tumour groups. The post holder will work as part of the physiotherapy team and wider MDT and will be supported and supervised by a Band 6 or Band 7 physiotherapist.

To assess, differentially diagnose and manage adults with reduced physical functioning from cancer diagnosis and or/treatment under the support/ supervision of a senior Physiotherapist as appropriate.

To manage and prioritise a defined in-patient and out-patient caseload independently with support and supervision from more senior Physiotherapists, and to manage and prioritise own workload including balance between administrative and clinical duties.

Developing and implementing individual specialised therapeutic rehabilitation programmes specific to patients’ needs based on assessment using a patient-centred, evidence based, problem solving approach.

To commence competencies relevant to all rotations under supervision.
