Crynodeb

We provide anaesthetic services across all our hospitals: The Royal London Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, Newham Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts). Future reconfiguration of services may lead to movement of anaesthetic staff across hospitals.

At the Royal London Hospital: POA, Trauma and orthopaedics, gynae-oncology, gynaecology, urology, HpB, colorectal, ENT, general and plastic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular, renal, maxillofacial, dental, paediatrics, obstetrics, pain – acute and chronic and interventional radiology.

The paediatric anaesthetic department consists 16 consultants, as well as designated paediatric anaesthetic trainees. We have specific links to the Paediatric Critical Care (PCCU), the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS), and the Trauma Service. We cover all surgical specialities (excluding cardiac and burns surgery), and manage children presenting with multiple complex co-morbidities, and neonates.
We co-ordinate an acute paediatric pain service (along with two specialist pain nurses), and support the level 3 medical and surgical neonatal unit, Paediatric A&E (the biggest in London), and PCCU. Paediatric surgery has its own dedicated theatre floor with 4 operating theatres and associated wards. We also support children having general anaesthesia for interventional radiology, endoscopy, MRI and in a stand alone dental institute.

The post is a locum consultant post in anaesthesia based at The Royal London Hospital; the successful candidate may be asked to cover surgical lists at Barts or Mile End Hospital if required. The post holder will be an employee of Barts Health and there may be future opportunities or requirements to work at one of the other hospitals in the Barts Health group.

The post has arisen due to a fixed term expansion in paediatric dental services until April 2026. This is a fixed-term post for a locum consultant anaesthetist with an interest in paediatric anaesthesia. There will be the opportunity to work in adult anaesthesia sessions if appropriate.

The appointee must be able to work flexibly and be able to cover all the specialities provided for at The Royal London Hospital.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect. We aim to create an equitable working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential.
