The Role and the College

Hatfield College is one of 17 colleges of the University of Durham. All students belong to a college throughout their studies. As well as students and staff, the College community also comprises a Senior Common Room, with members from both inside and outside the University, plus the alumni community and Hatfield Association. Colleges facilitate and organise a wide range of student enrichment activities, as well as providing broad-based student support as part of the cross-University Student Support Framework. The postholder will join the College Office team, working directly with the College Master, including providing confidential administrative support, as well as with the two other College Officers and other staff. They will engage with students and other members of the College as well as external stakeholders, providing efficient administrative support for a broad range of College activities including College meetings, documentation and publications, and communications. They will line manage the small College Office administrative team. The post is fully in person and will involve occasional evening and weekend work to support the delivery of College activities and initiatives.

Hatfield, which is Durham's second oldest College, combines a thoroughly contemporary outlook with pride in its historical roots and traditions. Located very centrally in city, adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage Site between the Cathedral and the River Wear, the College comprises a diverse student community, both undergraduate and postgraduate, with wide-ranging interests, experiences and backgrounds, creating an enriching College life for all. Reflecting the College ethos, , all students are encouraged and supported to take up opportunities to participate, and to contribute to the wellbeing of a thriving community. Through alumni donations to the Hatfield Trust, the College provides Hatfield Bursaries and Scholarships for less advantaged students, as well as hardship funds and grants awarded to support development opportunities. The College has an active Senior Common Room, and a thriving and supportive alumni community.
