Key Result AreasDistribution 1. To be familiar with the operation of the pharmacy computer system. 2. To carry out ward / department top-ups on any of the sites serviced by the Purchasing and Distribution Unit. 3. Checking expiry dates on wards and ensuring that drug cupboards are kept to an acceptable standard of general tidiness. 4. To assemble ward and dispensary picking lists. 5. Answering telephones and dealing with queries. 6. To print stock to-follow lists for wards & dispensaries. 7. To regularly check for short dated and expired stock within the distribution or store area. 8. To print ward stock lists as required. 9. To assist the Senior Distribution Assistant in maintaining a tidy, safe and efficient working environment. 10. To be involved in the return of goods from wards and departments including entering into the pharmacy computer system and checking of return lists. 11. Disposing of Pharmacy waste in accordance with guidelines. 12. To be involved in improving the distribution service in conjunction with senior staff at the Purchasing and Distribution Unit. 13. To become accredited to check boxes assembled by other staff. 14. To work towards and attain - Btec Level 2 in Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Support Staff. 15. To be trained in relevant element of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) Receipt of medicines from suppliers: 1. Unpacking goods delivered and checking against original orders and delivery notes including:a. Checking parcels are for correct delivery address.b. Ensuring stock received is in condition suitable for use.c. Ensuring that goods received match goods ordered.d. Checking items for accuracy against purchase order. 2. To restock shelves with delivery from suppliers ensuring stock rotation and appropriate storage conditions. 3. Receiving goods into the pharmacy system. 4. Any other reasonable duties. RISK MANAGEMENT The management of risk is the responsibility of everyone and will be achieved within a progressive, honest and open environment. Staff will be provided with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility. Staff should be familiar with the Major Incident Policy Fire Policyand should make themselves familiar with the local response plan and their role within that response. RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HEALTH & SAFETY The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures. This will be supported by the provision of training and specialist advice where required. INFECTION CONTROLInfection Control is everyones responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non clinical, are required to adhere to the Trusts Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of Healthcare Associated Infections including MRSA. All staff employed by the ORH Trust have the following key responsibilities: Staff must decontaminate their hands prior to and after direct patient contact or contact with the patients surroundings. Staff members have a duty to attend mandatory infection control training provided for them by the Trust. Staff members who develop an infection (other than common colds and illness) that may be transmittable to patients have a duty to contact Occupational Health. CHILDRENS RIGHTSThe post holder will endeavour at all times to uphold the rights of children and young people in accordance with the UN Convention Rights of the Child. SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTSThe Trust is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults throughout the organisation. SERIOUS UNTOWARD INCIDENTSAll staff must report incidents and near misses so that the Trust can reduce the risk of harm by investigating and incorporating risk reducing measures to safe guard patients, visitors and staff, in accordance with the Trust Incident Reporting Policy.
