The Recycling & Waste Team Leader (Driver) is responsible for overseeing daily operations related to the collection, transportation, sorting, and disposal of waste and recyclables across the organization’s sites. This role ensures that all waste management services are carried out efficiently, safely, and in compliance with environmental regulations and organizational policies. The role includes driving, leading a small team, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and recycling across buildings and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Coordination
Supervise and support a small team of waste operatives in their daily duties.
Plan and allocate tasks to ensure timely waste and recycling collections.
Provide on-the-job training and promote best practices in safety and sustainability.
Driving & Collection
Operate collection vehicles (e.g., caged vans, compactors) safely and responsibly.
Carry out scheduled collections of general waste, recycling, confidential waste, and bulky items.
Ensure vehicle checks and maintenance logs are completed regularly.
Operational Efficiency
Monitor and ensure correct segregation of waste streams (e.g., paper, plastics, food waste).
Liaise with building users and maintenance teams to optimize waste collection routes and schedules.
Report any issues or hazards promptly, including missed collections, contamination, or equipment faults.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
Wear appropriate PPE and enforce safe working practices within the team.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant environmental legislation.
Administration & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of collections, weights, and disposal tickets.
Support in preparing reports on recycling rates and waste reduction initiatives.
Contribute to audits, risk assessments, and improvement projects.
