The Migration and Borders Technology Portfolio (MBTP) is part of the (DDaT) Directorate in the Home Office. MBTP is a Portfolio of around 3,500 dedicated professionals made up of civil servants and suppliers working together to develop some of the most challenging and transformative technology products, supporting critical programmes within the Migration and Borders system. Working closely with colleagues in the Migration and Borders mission, we also support a number of the Home Office's capabilities such as Customer Services, Immigration Enforcement and Border Force. We jointly design services, build, run and sustain them to enable some of the government’s most important strategic outcomes, notably the legitimate movement of people and goods to support economic prosperity.

Due to business requirements this post is available on a full time/flexible working basis. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. Where this is the case, employees will be expected to spend a minimum of60% of their working time in the office. Applicants can raise any queries to the email address at the bottom of the advert.

We value diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from the widest diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We particularly encourage applications from women, people with disabilities and LGBT+ as they are currently under-represented in the Home Office at this grade level. Appointments will be made on merit based on fair and open competition.

A Product Manager will use their knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame and solve problems and set priorities for delivery teams. You will be responsible for the overall vision and quality of the product being delivered (sometimes in conjunction with a Senior or Lead Product Manager).

You will identify opportunities for improving business outcomes and enhancing benefits, looking to continuously improve the quality, capability and efficiency of your product. You will have the final say on quality and whether something is ready to be released into production.

In addition, you will build a shared understanding between the development team, stakeholders and end users about what your product does and how it achieves the outcomes it needs to achieve.

This role is to manage digital products that enable the new Customer and Channel Programme. The Programme aims to improve the customer experience for people interacting with the Home Office, so you could be responsible for the development of webchat services or our customer account.

Though you will work with an Agile delivery team, you will also need the strategic skills to spot interdependencies with other products and services and the ability to manage relationships across workstreams. To be successful in the role, you'll need to work well with operational stakeholders to get their buy-in and manage their expectations, for example, by defining success criteria and to agree benefits and constraints. As the programme is still emerging, you will have the opportunity to establish new cross-functional virtual teams and shape ways of working.

You will get support from the growing community of Product Managers at the Home Office, as well as the Lead Product Manager for this area. The Home Office is embedding a product-centric model, so this is an excellent time to join and take the opportunity to develop products and services of national importance.
