We are pleased to advertise a 12 month Band 5 Speech and Language Therapy opportunity within our team. This post is suitable for an experienced Band 5 SLT looking to widen their experiences and skills within a well -established, supportive and experienced SLT team.
The post is based at UHCW and Rugby Hospital of St Cross at Rugby. Working in our team offers the post holder the opportunity to work at an innovative, progressive training hospital with a diverse mixture of patients and services including geriatrics, dementia, neurosurgery, neurology, major trauma, surgery, oncology, respiratory and general medicine.
Successful applicants must provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
• Provide a high standard Speech and Language Therapy service, assessing and advising on patients care & treatment, as an autonomous practitioner working with patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties (depending on competencies).
• Manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnosis and complex needs relative to your experience including general medicine, respiratory, oncology, surgery, critical care and care of the elderly, using evidence- based client centred principles.
• To be involved in the education and training of volunteers, students and other staff.
• Maintain clinical records in line with local / Trust documentation guidelines
• Work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions, attending Multi-Disciplinary Meetings, board rounds and family meetings where necessary.
• Contribute to maintenance and development of the SLT service.
• Participate in information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.
• To work within National and Trust policies / guidelines; and HCPC and RCSLT standards and codes of conduct
• To have a solid understanding of national and local standards and able to monitor own practice against these.
• To participate in bank holiday working and work flexible hours to meet the needs of the patients if required.

With appropriate training and ongoing support, the main duties of the job include:
• Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties (depending on competence). Analyse and formulate individualised management & treatment plans and specialised programmes of care.
• Interpret & analyse clinical & non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis & prognosis on a range of conditions to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess & to develop comprehensive discharge plans. Seeking support from senior colleagues as required.
• Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required
• Be professionally & legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
• Undertake department audit and service development work, translating findings into practice.
• Provide specialist advice, teaching & instruction to relatives, carers & other members of the MDT regarding SLT issues.
• Engage in department and own CPD activities.
• Participate in health promotion activities of the department.
• Participate in other duties as required such as maintaining a clean safe environment always ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness hygiene & infection control.
• To take on designated roles or responsibilities that support the overarching needs of the department.
• To provide SLT provision across sites of UHCW and Hospital of St Cross as needed.
