Summary

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Lisburn
Contract Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday (7.5 hours/day)
Pay Rate: Experience dependent
Contract Status: Inside IR35

Join a dynamic engineering team and play a key role in the design and development of cutting-edge HVDC power electronics systems. We’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives in innovation, precision, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

- Mechanical design of power electronic converter modules and supporting structures for HVDC systems
- Develop 3D CAD models and component/assembly documentation using Creo (v2 or newer) and Windchill PDMlink (v4+)
- Specify design materials, including advanced composites
- Conduct and review FEA (mechanical, thermal, seismic) and perform engineering calculations
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams
- Write technical specifications and approve design documentation
- Support installation and commissioning activities as needed

Required Skills & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Proven track record in industrial product mechanical design
- Deep understanding of material properties and mechanical behavior
- Experience with Creo and Windchill PDMlink
- Ability to lead, guide, and motivate multidisciplinary teams
- Strong documentation skills and ability to work independently and in teams

Desirable/Advantageous Experience:

- Mechanical design of high-voltage electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, generators, switchgear)
- Power electronic converter design (e.g., motor drives)
- Finite Element Analysis using Pro-Mechanica or ANSYS
- Experience in heat transfer, structural, or seismic analysis
