Summary
CRC are looking for a Fire Resistance Laboratory Technician in Blockley, Gloucestershire.
Our client is seeking a Fire Resistance Laboratory technician to work at their UKAS Accredited Fire Test and Research Laboratory in Gloucestershire as part of their Furnace Testing team.
This is a practical role in a ‘high visibility jacket’ laboratory the successful candidate should be happy to work outdoors and occasionally work at height or in a confined space. Be competent with general construction techniques and display mechanical aptitude.
The successful candidate will be working within FPA’s Standards Testing Department, conducting destructive testing on building materials full training will be provided for all new employees.
This involves working at their lab based in Blockley so being within a commutable distance is crucial for this role.
Working Hours: 08:00 – 16:00 Monday - Friday
Start date: Soon after Interview
Key Responsibilities
• Carefully check and record details of test samples before testing begins
• Take part in fire resistance tests to support smooth, efficient operations
• Keep accurate records of test results and ensure all documents are completed correctly and certified (please note training will also be provided for unlicensed employees.)
• Follow standard procedures and safety guidelines, including those set by UKAS
• Communicate clearly with clients when answering technical questions (training will support you with this)
• Help maintain a safe working environment during fire tests and in the laboratory
• Assist with deliveries, checking that materials and equipment are correct and undamaged
• Follow all safety procedures and report any issues or near misses immediately
• Quickly flag any problems or errors to the Fire Resistance Manager to avoid delays in the testing process

Qualifications
Essential
• A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths
• Competence in using basic computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability and willingness to learn new software such as datalogging systems and video editing tools
• Hands on practical experience
Desirable
• A-levels or a degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field
• Experience working with fire testing equipment or similar technical machinery
• Forklift, MEWP and plant machinery operation certification or willingness to obtain certification
• Understanding of safe working practices
