Salary: £30 per hour PAYE

Hours: 37 hours – offers flexi-time scheme

Role length: 2 months

The role: We are seeking an experienced Criminal Prosecutions & Regulatory Lawyer with local government experience in Children’s Services in relation to procedural issues, policy matters, individual case studies and statutory duties relating to child protection.



Key Responsibilities:

To provide written and verbal legal advice to instruct departments of the Authority, primarily Children’s Services.


Attend essential evening Committee meetings once a month.


Advise instructing departments in creating and revising policy and procedure documents in respect of practise and statutory duties.


Ensure strong attention to detail when legal advice is given.


Advise instructing departments of changes in legislation government guidelines and case law decisions.
Liaise with the Council Solicitor of any actions that may place the Authority at risk of litigation or charge of maladministration.
Advise Children’s Services on specific case studies, identifying the legal issues involved, evaluating the evidence available and advising on the most appropriate form or proceedings in relation to Child Protection.
Attending court on the behalf of the Family Justice Committee, County Court User’s Group and the Law Society Special Interest Group.
Interviewing witnesses, taking instructions and drafting witness statements.
Filing evidence in accordance with relevant court rules.
Attend professional education training courses.



What the client is looking for:

Basic DBS
Experience in Children’s and social services related legal matters
Strong attention to detail
Excellent communication skills written and verbally
Local government experience
Must have licensing experience and have supported Licensing Committee’s.
