What the school offers its staff
New Leaf School is the only Key Stage1, 2 and 3 Pupil Referral Unit in Walsall. Most pupils are placed at New Leaf for social and emotional reasons which have often resulted in them becoming resistant learners. Far from having learning difficulties, many simply find learning difficult and need a different approach. Consequently, the ability to engage with challenging and vulnerable learners is an essential part of this job. When the structures around learning are effective, pupils can and do settle to learning at this school and progress can be rapid, rewarding and sustained. Most of the pupils have already experienced significant school and social exclusion in one form or another and New Leaf works hard to mitigate the social disadvantages that have resulted in their placement here. These students are some of Walsall’s most vulnerable learners and as such should benefit from the very best we have to offer.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment. Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance. Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant): childcare disqualification Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) medical online and social media prohibition from teaching right to work satisfactory references suitability to work with children You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
