FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Occupational Therapy department as aBand 4 Technical Instructor (TI).
• We support adults who have complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history in their rehabilitation.
• We help them identify and pursue their interests, develop functional and life skills, or help them to identify future vocational and educational pursuits.
You will need to have experience, or be willing to learn and support service users to access fitness, gardening, music, artistic outlets, develop social networks, develop life skills etc.
We are keen to utilise any specialist skills/passions or hobbies you may have and incorporate these into your role, e.g. meditation, teaching or sharing a skill.
Current TI’s report enjoying seeing service users developing their skills and confidence and enjoying themselves while engaging in activity, whilst challenges can be overcoming patients lack of motivation.
Our OT department is resourced with a recreational centre which includes 2 gyms, a sports hall, pottery room, music/recording studio, IT suite, horticulture garden, ADL kitchen, tennis court, carpentry and mechanics workshop, a service user lounge, cafe and shop. Some of the groups that run from the centre include pet therapy, plumbing and motorbike repair/maintenance.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist, on a medium / low secure forensic ward; alongside a robust multi-disciplinary team. As a Technical Instructor you will be expected to work with individuals on a one to one basis and facilitate therapeutic group sessions within the hospital and in the community; with the aim to promote service users recovery, maximise independence and to work towards their discharge. Team working and communication are an essential part of this role.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.
