Job description Personal tutor
1. Main purpose of job:
1.1. Manage a list of students and produce an individual assessment and learning plan (IALP) for each student
2. Key Information
2.2. Department:Academic
2.3. Line Manager:Programme Manager
2.4. Location/Branch: Headquarters, Barclay Hall Campus and all campuses
2.5. Key Functions: To ensure all students receive appropriate support to achieve their aims
2.6. Subject Discipline:
a) Higher National Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship;
b) BA in Business Management.
3. Duties and Responsibilities
3.1. Establish close working relationship with the students and build a rapport with each of the students;
3.2. Frequently and regularly contact the students and update their status on the IALP and invite them for meetings and maintaining logs of the contacts;
3.3. Recommend a list of students who are identified at risks of termination for not making sufficient progress (for example not completing one third of their assignments in due course);
3.4. Be aware of the policies and procedures related to the College and various relevant handbooks including student handbook;
3.5. Prepare a monthly report for the Programme Manager outlining the plan to tackling non-submission, reducing referral rates and increasing attendance rates;
3.6. Monitor and record students’ progress against the individual assessment and learning plan (IALP);
3.7. Set and meet the targets related to submission rates and pass rates;
3.8. Assist students in understanding the assignment brief;
3.9. Collate and distribute academic materials which will help student in writing their assignments;
3.10. Assist students in articulating and producing their assignments;
3.11. Any other duties as required by the Programme Manager and/or Head of Programmes and Academic Monitoring.
4. Person Specification
4.1. Passionate about education and supporting others;
4.2. Highly motivated and ambitious;
4.3. Invested in professional development;
4.4. Highly knowledgeable in business;
4.5. Extensive occupational experience in business administration and customer service;
4.6. Occupational experience as an operations or department manager;
4.7. An ambition to become a qualified teacher;
4.8. A professional management qualification at level 5 or above;
4.9. Minimum GCSE English and maths grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths;
4.10. The right to work in the UK;
4.11. Experience teaching in a virtual learning environment (desirable);
4.12. Educated to degree level at a minimum of 2:1 (desirable).
5. General
5.1. The above list is neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post. All members of staff are required to be professional, co-operative and flexible in line with the needs of the post.
