About the role

The main purpose of the role is to support the academic and professional development of students on BA (Hons) Games Design, and other programmes as required. The post holder will design and deliver teaching, engage in research and/or enterprise activities and undertake administrative and pastoral duties as required. We are seeking candidates with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:

Proficiency with games engines (preferably Unreal Engine)
Technical programming skills
Industry experience, ideally with a leadership role in a studio or involvement in the production of shipped games
Experience in a producer or project management role within the games industry, with knowledge of agile workflows, sprints, and managing cross-disciplinary teams

The post is ideally suited for those with experience in the games industry who wish to enter Higher Education teaching.

About our courses

Our BA Games Design and MA Games Design are popular, student-centred courses with a focus on indie games design. We equip students with a broad and adaptable skill set, grounded in both creative practice and critical understanding. Students work with a variety of tools and platforms—including GameMaker Studio 2, Unity, Unreal Engine, RenPy, and Tabletop Simulator—and are encouraged to explore alternative formats such as board games, escape rooms, and ARGs. This diversity allows them to develop as versatile designers capable of working across genres and platforms. Our courses seek to enable students to meet the challenges of employment (including self-employment) by providing an academically rigorous yet practically oriented curriculum. They achieve this by developing students’ creative, analytical, research, design, managerial, and communication skills, alongside an understanding of professional workflows and production methodologies.

Our student community is diverse, with many being first-generation university students, and some entering higher education without prior experience in coding or development methodologies. We pride ourselves on delivering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can grow in confidence and skill. This role would suit someone who is already building a career in games education, or a professional from the games industry looking to bring their knowledge and experience into an academic setting. We welcome applicants who are passionate about student success and committed to inclusive, forward-thinking teaching practice.
