Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit. We’re looking for a Visitor Experience Officer to join the team at one of the National Trust’s busiest places, Attingham Park.
What it's like to work here
Attingham is at the heart of Shropshire, set in the beautiful countryside between Telford and Shrewsbury. This 4,000 acre estate overlooks the rivers Tern and Severn, and includes a Mansion built in 1782, a Walled Garden, Deer Park and Pleasure Grounds. The estate now welcomes around 600,000 visitors a year and has a vibrant year-round visitor programme.
You’ll work alongside the Senior Programming and Partnerships Officer, and Senior Marketing Communications Officer to share Attingham and its stories, history, nature and wildlife with our supporters and visitors.
As part of the Visitor Experience team, you’ll work with staff and volunteer teams across the estate, and work with and supervise the 100-strong team of Visitor Experience volunteers who support the visitor programme.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Experience and Visitor Programming Manager you'll be one of the lead Duty Manager’s at Attingham, on-call to support visitor facing, and behind the scenes teams to ensure the smooth running of visitor operations.
You’ll play a key role in the effective delivery of an engaging programme that delivers a year-round visitor offer. You will also be responsible for specific elements of the year-round seasonal visitor programme of activities at Attingham, for example, this could be the planning, creating and delivering of family trails or the leading and development of active programming such as walking or sports activities.
Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. You’ll deliver high standards of presentation at the property, and where relevant ensure all our communications with our visitors, from the first click on the website, to the posters and signs around the property are clear and consistent. As a champion of exceptional visitor experiences, you’ll join a high performing team and will be involved on a daily basis with the duty management rota helping run the visitor operation.
This role will include regular weekend working (every other weekend) and is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) fixed term role until 28 February 2026.
Who we're looking for
We'd love to hear from you if you’re:
used to multiple deadlines, problem solving and managing your own workload
skilled in organisation and planning, with a good eye for detail
excellent people skills, to build strong working relationships internally and externally
a hard-working and committed team player, willing to learn and develop in this role
comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
experience or understanding of visitor operations
experience of working with or supervising volunteers
The package
The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
• Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
• Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
