About the role
Are you a skilled Design Manager with a passion for delivering complex infrastructure projects? Join Balfour Beatty on the A57 Link Roads Scheme in Mottram, where you'll lead the design delivery process on a significant and high-impact highways project.
About the Role
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the contractor design elements during both pre-construction and construction phases. Working collaboratively with commercial, production, and engineering teams, you’ll ensure that the design meets client requirements, legislative standards, and the highest safety and sustainability benchmarks.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities
- Manage development and implementation of design proposals aligned with budget, quality, and safety objectives.
- Ensure designs are buildable, maintainable, energy efficient, and environmentally conscious.
- Lead coordination of internal and external design teams, including M&E disciplines and third-party consultants.
- Oversee subcontractor design packages and technical approvals.
- Engage with statutory authorities and stakeholders as required.
- Lead the production and monitoring of the design deliverables programme, ensuring timely reviews and approvals.
- Drive innovation and value engineering across design packages.
- Support BIM implementation and Lean construction practices.
- Promote continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and knowledge sharing across the business.
- Represent the project and business in relevant forums, such as Safety by Design & Engineering.
Who we're looking for
About You
- Proven track record of delivering design services on-site during the construction phase of major infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams in a matrix environment.
- Working knowledge of BIM and current procurement routes.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RIBA, CIBSE, IET) is advantageous.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with relevant codes of practice and regulations.
- Strong report writing and numerical analysis skills.
- A proactive, solution-focused mindset with a drive for innovation and excellence.
