About the Role
Leicestershire Sendiass provides Leicestershire County Councils statutory information and advice service. Sendiass provides impartial, free and confidential information and advice to parents, carers and young people regarding SEND.
We are looking to recruit a Sendiass Officer to join our small team.
Working as a Sendiass officer involves providing legal advice on all matters relating to special educational needs. You will empower parents, carers and young people to self advocate by understanding their rights.
You will have a good knowledge of special educational needs and of the Send Code of Practice.
You will have experience of providing both written and verbal information, advice and support to a variety of people.
Your work will involve covering our very busy helpline, answering duty emails and attending school meetings. You will also provide case work for families and support parents to attending mediation meetings and tribunal hearings. We also attend outreach events such as Leicestershire’s Local Offer Roadshows
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
- Have excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills and good organisational skills with the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative (including working from home).
- Hold a level 4 qualification and be willing to undertake IPSEA legal training.
- An ability to provide information and advice to parents, carers and young people, asking the right questions to get the information required.
- Be able to work with parents and professionals having a child centred approach.
- Be able to provide professional challenge to both schools and parents.
- Experience of accurately capturing, storing and retrieving information in line with confidentiality and data protection.
You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.
