Job Title: Waste OperativeSalary: £ 28,828.20Contract Type: PermanentType of Employment: Full Time Total Weekly Contractual Hours: 44Shift Pattern: 0600 - 1800 4 days on 4 days off ( 2 per shift )Location: The Manchester Airport Group - Castle Donington - East Midlands Airport, Derbyshire, England, DE74 2SARequirement: Full UK Driving License and 5 year employment historyThe primary responsibility of this role involves the collection, movement, sorting, processing, and dispatch of waste and other materials, both as part of routine scheduled activities and in response to adhoc client requests. The successful candidate will be required to load and unload both hazardous and non-hazardous waste from service yards and collection points throughout the airport, ensuring all tasks are carried out efficiently and safely. In addition, the role includes liaising directly with the client to fulfill adhoc waste collection requests, conducting regular litter picks in working areas to maintain cleanliness, and ensuring high standards of tidiness are upheld across the site.
As part of the commitment to safety, this role demands adherence to strict health, safety, and environmental policies, both those set by the company and by the client. This includes compliance with waste legislation when handling all waste materials. The role requires the completion of daily check sheets for all equipment used, reporting any unsafe conditions, acts, near misses, incidents, or accidents promptly via the appropriate reporting systems, and ensuring all work-related documentation is completed accurately and on time. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a logical and practical approach to tasks and be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as they become suitably qualified or trained.
The role demands physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks, including the manual lifting and movement of large or bulky items in a safe manner. A valid driving license is required, and the candidate must be comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions, with suitable workwear provided. Previous manual handling training is essential, along with literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to ensure safe operation in a potentially hazardous environment. Timekeeping and attendance are critical, and the candidate should have an exemplary record in these areas.
Desirable experience includes previous work in the waste industry, as well as familiarity with the use of static balers and compactors.
