Summary

Do you want to make a difference to individuals in housing need in prison and help successfully support and resettle individuals as they leave prison and move back into the community? We are looking for an extremely motivated individual to join our team of Housing Solutions Officers to prevent and end homelessness in Conwy with a clear focus on this vulnerable client group.

You will be the frontline professional delivering a first class, modern and flexible service to some of the most vulnerable people in the County. You will fulfil the council's statutory housing and homelessness assessment and decision making function, with particular focus on preventing homelessness and developing Personal Housing Plans to those in custody, under probation and on their release into the community.

We are looking for someone with housing knowledge, especially the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, plus an understanding of the importance of homelessness prevention. Previous experience is welcomed and we are looking for candidates that demonstrate an understanding of the varying needs of individuals with an offending background, from a prison background and a trauma informed understanding of working with those leaving custody and coming back into the community. You will also have an ability to understand and manage complex, fast paced, sometimes high risk situations and interpret legislation.

Ability to drive is an essential for this role as you will be working from local Prisons, such as HMP Berwyn as well as in Probation Offices to assess and support prisoners in housing need or will be homeless on release.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Housing Solutions service in Conwy. We are currently restructuring as we move forward with our Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan, aiming to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated in the County. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who want to get the very best of outcomes for residents of the County. You will be joining a busy and hardworking team during a time of transformational change where every day offers an opportunity to make a positive difference.

Within the team you will feel supported by your committed and highly motivated colleagues. There is also a dedicated team of experienced, supportive and readily available managers. The management support will be available through regular formal supervision and informal daily check-ins.

You will have the opportunity of working flexibly from both home and the state of the art ‘Coed Pella’ office in Colwyn Bay, which allows you to be in contact with partner departments including Social Care, Youth Justice, Education, Youth Services and many others. We promote and understand the importance of a positive and healthy work life balance and can offer a range of flexible working solutions
