Haematology Specialist Doctor based in Weston
Substantive Full time – 10 PAs
Applications are invited for a permanent Specialist Doctor at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full-time post (10PAs) based at Weston General Hospital with cover on Bristol Haematology Unit.
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country and a major teaching and research centre for the Southwest. The Haematology Unit in Weston is a level 2 unit with close links to the Bristol Haematology Unit which is based in the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). The BHU is a tertiary referral centre for bone marrow transplantation, CART therapies, it is a regional centre for Haemoglobinopathy, and a comprehensive care centre for Haemophilia. The Trust provides services to a catchment population of approximately 2.2 million people.
The successful candidates must be registered with the GMC with a valid license to practice and should have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) in Haematology and have experience of working within the NHS preferably in Haematology.

The successful candidate will join another Specialist doctor based in Weston, and work alongside a team of three Haematology enhanced practitioners. There is a Haematology and Oncology Day unit providing day case chemotherapy. Weston Hospital also has an acute Oncology service to support safe care of Haematology and Oncology patients requiring hospital attendances. The post holder will work closely with these teams to ensure safe and appropriate care for our in and outpatients. The service at Weston is supported by consultants who provide subspecialty clinics and oversight. The post involves regular weekly clinics across malignant Haematology subspecialties. Ther is the opportunity to provide laboratory cover in Bristol on a 1 in 10 basis depending on prior training and expertise in this area. There is an on-call component providing daytime weekend cover on a 1 in 6 to 1 in 8 basis. This attracts additional payment. There is no overnight on-call.
The laboratory at Weston is linked to the Bristol laboratory but provides stand alone services for full blood counts, blood films and coagulation profiles. There is a transfusion laboratory.
The department across Bristol and Weston comprises 17 Haematology consultants, 5 of whom deliver clinics in Weston. Out-of-hours cover for Haematology at Weston is provided by the on call team in Bristol. Haematology services at both sites have long had close links with a history of joint posts.
