Are you passionate about cultural heritage, copyright and documentation? Do you want to play a key role in opening access to some the richest Gaelic-language archives in Scotland?

The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Copyright and Permissions Administrator to join the ÈIST project, a major research and development initiative in Gaelic language technology. This exciting role will ensure that traditional Gaelic audio materials – held by partners including the School of Scottish Studies Archives, BBC ALBA and the National Trust for Scotland – are cleared for inclusion in a new community transcription platform and for use in language technology systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with project partners, heritage archives and rights holders to assess existing permissions, trace next of kin where required and maintain a thorough and well-documented record of all correspondence. This is an important opportunity to contribute to cultural preservation and ethical access to Gaelic oral heritage.

We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and particularly encourage those from underrepresented backgrounds to apply, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, women and LGBT+ individuals. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience in copyright, archiving or heritage work, as well as those with knowledge of Scottish Gaelic or Scots.

This job is being offered at 0.6 FTE, or 21 hours per week. There is some flexibility around workdays and the workplace location.

Informal inquiries may be directed to LLC.Recruitment@ed.ac.uk.

Your skills and attributes for success:

A good general education (National 5 / GCSE or higher).
Experience using software such as Microsoft Office.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
