An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Suffolk County Council's Children’s Home in Lowestoft.
The homes are solo bedded Children’s Homes for children aged between 8-17. The overall aim of the homes is to provide a safe, stable, nurturing and homely environment for each child, where issues and concerns affecting their past, present and their future can be positively addressed and supported.
Suffolk County Council are seeking a passionate and motivated individual for the role of Handyperson to assist in providing a safe, warm and comfortable environment for our children. You will be responsible for the weekly maintenance, decorating, carpentry, statutory Health and Safety checks within both homes.
Ideally you will be:
- self-driven, flexible, and emotionally resilient
- able to offer practical solutions to the needs of the home
- familiar and comply with COSHH regulations
- experienced in the provision of decorating, carpentry, basic cleaning, PAT inspections within a social care setting
- experienced in carrying out fire alarm and statutory checks including emergency lighting and water temperature within a social care setting
- able to communicate and interact well with young people
- able to empathise and understand the needs of ‘Children in Care’.

Travelling requirements for your role
This organisation positively encourages the use of technology to communicate and engage, but in this role you will need to operate across a wide and rural area, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.
