At Astor Secondary School, we are committed to unlocking every student’s potential. As part of our drive to provide outstanding welfare and academic support, we are looking to appoint passionate and dedicated Learning Mentors to join our growing team.
About the Role
Learning Mentors at Astor will play a vital role in supporting our students—particularly those who may face challenges in accessing learning. You will work closely with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping them to build confidence, improve attendance, overcome barriers to learning, and develop strategies for success both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide tailored support to identified students to improve academic progress and personal wellbeing
• Liaise with teachers, parents, and welfare teams to deliver coordinated mentoring plans
• Monitor and track student progress, behaviour, and attendance
• Deliver motivational sessions, build trust, and act as a positive role model
• Help students set and achieve realistic goals
What We are Looking For
• Empathetic, patient, and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about supporting young people
• Experience working with secondary-aged students (in a school or youth work setting preferred)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A flexible and resilient approach to working with a range of needs and abilities
• A commitment to Astor’s ethos and values
Why Join Astor?
• A supportive and inclusive school community
• Ongoing training and professional development
• Opportunities to make a real difference in the lives of young people
• Access to wellbeing support and staff benefits
• Part of a school committed to excellence, equity, and opportunity for all students
What the school offers its staff
Samphire Star Education Trust is a family of schools which serve the south of Kent community and beyond. We are Astor Secondary School, Barton Junior School, Shatterlocks Infant and Nursery School, and White Cliffs Primary and Nursery School.
We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our staff and students. At all levels, individuals have the opportunity to extend their interests and develop their talents through collaboration and celebration within strong and imaginative teams.
We have a well-established reputation for offering our pupils a safe and caring environment in which they can be happy and thrive as they learn. Ideas and opportunities are explored with enthusiasm through a broad and balanced curriculum throughout our Schools. All young people in our community, from the youngest to the oldest, are encouraged and supported to be the very best versions of themselves possible.
Commitment to safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. You are advised that this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and therefore this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
