A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.
We have a rare opportunity for a band 7 Clinical Lead SLT to join our dedicated and friendly stroke team at UHMB.
This is a newly created role for you to create a role in developing the stroke-aligned speech and language therapy service and workforce across Morecambe Bay. Therefore, clinical evidence-based knowledge of stroke, alongside a passion and commitment to leadership and management, service development, multidisciplinary integration, facilitation of learning and practitioner wellbeing is fundamental. You will have compassionate communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and implementation of innovative solutions within an evolving stroke therapy landscape.
As part of a national stroke service model for an Integrated Community Stroke Service, we provide input across the entire stroke pathway from hospital to community-based (which includes home, care home, clinic and telehealth settings) rehabilitation through a multi-disciplinary approach. This ensures a responsive, needs-based approach to holistic patient centred care.
You will undertake a critical role in promoting collaborative working practices within the Speech and Language Therapy Team across Morecambe Bay. The stroke SLT team is part of the Adult Speech Therapy service at UHMB which has other pathways in non-stroke, head and neck and voice. This offers opportunities to be part of our 'grow your own' ethos, as well as supervision, peer supervision and CPD. We run our own videofluoroscopy clinic.
The service is supported by an overarching Clinical and Professional Lead. The service is aligned to and contributes to a range of regional peer support networks and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board workstreams related to Speech and Language Therapy, neuro-rehabilitation and the Integrate Stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation Delivery Network (ISNDN).
The ability to travel and work across Morecambe Bay, including hospital, outpatient, community and telehealth settings is a non-negotiable element of this role. In the future, you will be expected to work as part of a 6 day service.
If you are a motivated, flexible and forward thinking band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) who is ready to advance their professional and clinical development in a more senior role or a current band 7 SLT wanting to further consolidate their knowledge and skills within a new role alongside a nurturing team, we would love to hear from you.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care settings.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
