The Security Controller is responsible for the smooth operation of the 24/7 Control Room, ensuring the effective coordination of security personnel, monitoring of systems, escalation of incidents, and communication between operational teams, clients, and emergency services. They are the first point of contact during emergencies and the central hub for all shift and deployment coordination.
The role includes handling critical elements such as staff scheduling, welfare check-ins, lone worker support, and the officer book-on/book-off process to ensure both compliance and employee wellbeing. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, responsive under pressure, and experienced in coordinating a security workforce using a range of communication and monitoring systems.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Control Room Operations-
Maintain a constant presence within the control room, monitoring CCTV, access control, intruder/fire alarms, and radio communications.

Manage telephone and radio traffic, ensuring clear and professional communication across all levels.

Respond to system alerts, incidents, or alarms and follow appropriate escalation and dispatch protocols.

Maintain and update live duty rosters, ensuring all posts are covered per contractual obligations.

Coordinate short-notice cover for sickness, absence, or emergencies.

Communicate clearly with mobile supervisors and site teams to ensure successful deployment and shift continuity.

Record and manage all scheduling changes in the designated workforce management system.

Monitor and manage the start and end of each officer's shift.

Ensure every officer books on/off via radio, phone, or workforce app.
-
Log any missed or delayed book-on incidents and escalate where appropriate.

Cross-check attendance against rosters and flag anomalies to supervisors.

Act as the central monitoring hub for all lone workers on duty.

Ensure lone workers are accounted for via designated check-in intervals or devices.

Initiate immediate escalation if contact is not made during a scheduled check-in.

Activate lone worker recovery or welfare response plans as per protocol.

Carry out regular welfare check-ins with officers at remote or high-risk sites.

Maintain an accurate call log, including time, date, officer name, and site location.

Report concerns regarding officer health, safety, or site conditions to management immediately.

Support officers during incidents with reassurance and guidance via radio or phone.

Act as the first point of coordination in the event of an incident or emergency.

Log incidents in real-time, dispatch appropriate resources, and maintain accurate audit trails.

Escalate serious incidents to emergency services, site managers, or the client as needed.

Ensure incident reports are completed, reviewed, and submitted post-incident.

Maintain accurate records of all communications, checks, alarms, and interventions.

Complete Daily Occurrence Book (DOB), shift handovers, and incident logs.

Ensure all reports comply with GDPR and company data protection standards.

Provide detailed shift summaries to management and clients when required.

Valid SIA Licence (CCTV, DS, or Security Guarding).

Minimum 2 years of experience in a security control room, operations centre, or command post.

Strong working knowledge of control room equipment: CCTV, access control, alarm systems, lone worker systems.

High proficiency in communication - written, verbal, and via radio protocols.

Excellent organisational and scheduling abilities.

Familiarity with workforce management platforms and shift planning tools.

Right to work in the UK.

Experience with lone working monitoring systems (e.g., StaySafe, SoloProtect).

Conflict management and de-escalation training.
-
First Aid or Fire Marshal Certification.

Knowledge of BS 7858 and BS 7499 standards.

Familiarity with GDPR relating to CCTV and personal data usage.

Clear communication, even in stressful situations.

Attention to detail, particularly when recording logs and incidents.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Able to coordinate multiple moving parts and remain calm under pressure.

Empathy and patience, particularly during welfare calls.

Reliable, punctual, and flexible in working pattern.

Based in a secure control room facility.

Work may include days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Lone working shifts within the control room may occur.

May be required to remain on duty during critical events or site emergencies.

Use of computers, monitoring systems, and telecommunication equipment throughout shift.

Incident reporting and escalation process training.

Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and internal procedures.

Maintain clean, safe, and well-organised control room conditions.

Identify and report any risks or hazards related to officer safety or technology failure.

Ensure lone worker safety protocols are followed without exception.
