We are recruiting a Welfare Solicitor at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37 Hours (7.24 Monday – Friday)
Contract Type: Full Time/Fixed Term for 12 months
Location: Ty Penallta/ Working hours can be split between home and office depending on specific task requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Team Caerphilly and provide support across the wider Legal and Democratic Team.

We pay an attractive salary of £41,511 - £44,711 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

This post attracts a Market Supplement of £4,235 per annum, in addition to the annual salary, which will be paid in 12 monthly instalments, subject to relevant experience.

The successful candidate will assist the Principal Solicitor in the efficient and effective provision of legal services and support to the Council, in particular the Social Services and Education directorates.

You will be responsible for managing a varied case load of court matters, cases and pre-proceedings to include the provision advice on child and adult welfare in line with current legislation. Cases can be complex in nature with significant implications for the Council if appropriate legal advice is not provided.

The post also requires the candidate to attend Scrutiny Committees to provide advice.

For the role, we ask that you have:

1. An admitted Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate or the ability to have such a certificate issued without delay or restriction. Or A Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer.
2. Knowledge of Children, adoption and Social Services law to include relevant statutes and Welsh regulations.
3. Experience of advocacy before Family Proceedings and County Courts to include the conduct of contested hearings.
4. A full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel around and outside the borough to attend meetings and Court.
