Support Worker required in Lowestoft, Suffolk
4 hours available per week during school termtime
8 hours available per week during school holidays
£12.21 per hour
Job reference: 5124
Job description
Although this job description is correct at present, it may change from time to time after negotiation with the post holder.
Must have the right to work in the UK to apply for this role, sponsorship not available.
Job purpose
To support an 8-year-old boy with autism, helping to promote his independence and to do the activities he enjoys.
About me
I am a cheeky and happy 8-year-old boy living in Lowestoft with my family. I am very energetic and bouncy (like a Duracell bunny!). When I’m happy I make high pitched noises. I love to do many things, which you will learn as you get to know me but some examples are:
Bouncing on my trampoline
Climbing (climbing frames at parks and up walls)
Sensory tickles
Fair rides
Having the radio on in the car
My tablet
Football
When supporting me it is essential that you are always vigilant as I have no sense of danger, I love to climb and I have PICA (an eating disorder in which someone eats things not usually considered food).
Following a routine is very important for me. If I am unsure, I will start nest/fort building and pull you in with me. If I become agitated I will make a low noise, sit with my tablet on and spin my fidget worms, until I have processed this. I am always listening and aware of what is going on around me. I have my own way of communicating which you will also learn as you get to know me.
You will be employed by my parents and we have no pets in our home.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Supporting me with all the things I love to do, inside and outside of our home.
Personal care – changing nappies
Taking me to gymnastics
Giving my parents respite and time to spend with my sister
Personal Specification
(refer to these when submitting your application)
Essential Criteria
Experience working with children with Autism.
Driving licence
Very calm natured person
Fun (but aware of boundaries and when it’s become too much)
Vigilant – I have no sense of danger and love to climb
Desirable Criteria
Access to own vehicle
