Professional / Clinical responsibilities To be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken and to practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within national breast guidelines, MKUH Trust policies and NMC Codes of Conduct. To deliver evidence based expert nursing care exercising a high degree of professional autonomy, demonstrating ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience. To assess individuals holistically using a range of different assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive patient and client centred conclusions which manage risk and are appropriate to need context and culture. Service Development To lead on the implementation and delivery of the Breast diagnostic pathway. Develop robust governance systems by contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, documentation processes, standards, policies and clinical guidelines through interpreting and synthesising information from a variety of sources and promoting their use in practice. Management and Leadership Through strong clinical leadership, support the Cancer Chief Cancer Nurse to promote excellence in nursing to maintain and improve clinical standards, in particular displaying ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures, ways of working, boundaries and organisations to produce more effective and innovative service delivery and partnerships. To review the Breast service policies and procedures ensuring they are current in the context of practice and changes in legislation. To review and update the documentation relating to improving the quality, accuracy and consistency of information recorded. Education and Professional Development To help formulate plans to meet breast pathway training and education needs of staff, at an individual, team and organisation level in conjunction with other experts in the Trust. To provide learning opportunities for nurses and other health care professionals via mentorship and supervision. To disseminate innovations in practice education and research both nationally and internationally through conference presentation and publication.
