I am looking for an enthusiastic, engaging and out-going buddy/support worker for my 19-year-old son who has Down Syndrome. The role will involve getting out and about to clubs and various activities, helping him to develop his social and independence skills, and to do what 19-year-olds do.

My son loves being around people and is great company. He loves pantomimes, shows, dancing and singing and enjoys food. He loves routine. Although he is very eloquent and appears very capable, his understanding is limited, so you will need to repeat explanations more than once. The role will require someone patient who can offer him the reassurance he needs.

Duties include:
- Transportation
- Companionship
- Assistance with snacks, food and drinks when required – e.g. helping to open packets, unscrew bottle tops etc
- Supporting him with social cues and social communication
- Monitor risks whilst out and about and responding appropriately

Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative
- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
- Must be comfortable with pets
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
