We are looking for a cool head who keeps calm during a crisis to become our Emergency Planning and Resilience Officer here at Canterbury City Council.

When a major incident takes place in our patch, we need to be ready to look after the people affected and support the blue light emergency services. It’s the job of our Emergency Planning and Resilience Officer to make sure we are ready to react at a moment’s notice.

About this role:
You will make sure the council’s emergency plans are ready for action at moment’s notice and that we have practised what we need to do. You will also act as a key advisor when the council is responding to an incident.

Here’s what else you’ll get up to:
You will recruit and train existing staff in key emergency roles
You will make sure our business continuity plans are fit for purpose
You will be a key link to the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum
You will administer and supervise the Safety Advisory Group on behalf of a range of partners

Working pattern:
Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays, but there will be times when you need to respond to emergencies out of hours
This a full time role working 37 hours a week
You will be part of the Policy and Communications team which works from home and in the office
Contract type: permanent

About you:
You will:
Understand emergency planning and business continuity principles and practice
Understand how councils and the emergency services operate

Your experience:
Experience working for a Category 1 or Category 2 responder would be preferable

You will:
Be great at building relationships internally with our stakeholders
Have clear and concise writing skills
Be able to manage your budget
