MCA Press Officers are responsible for maintaining and developing external relations on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, promoting key priorities and safety messages, as well as protecting the agency’s reputation through a multitude of media platforms, both proactively and reactively. The senior press officer oversees and plans all this work as well as taking on an operational role.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Lead the press office team, providing guidance and direction on everyday media work for team members and on sensitive issues.
  • Providing strategic advice and briefings for MCA Executive members, Head of Strategic Comms, DfT and other Government departments.
  • Deliver a high-quality 24-hour media service to senior directors, MCA business areas, DFT and wider Government colleagues, and to the media and the public.
  • Work with partner organisations and stakeholders to ensure consistency of messaging and value for money to ensure maximum reach and engagement for target audiences
  • Develop excellent working relationships with key media contacts, including national, regional and specialist media, and ensure a professional and prompt service.
  • Maximise the value of creative content, working strategically with Communications Team colleagues to identify opportunities to adapt, repurpose and share content for other purposes and in other channels, including for internal audiences.
