Job Description – Nursery Manager

Purpose of Post

1. To lead, manage and support the development of the setting including reviewing and evaluating the quality of the practice.

2. To lead and support the nursery team in all aspects of teaching and learning.

3. To lead on all aspects of staffing and teamwork including recruitment, retention, continuous professional development and performance management.

4. To lead and take responsibility on all aspects of Health & Safety, Administrative and Financial duties associated with children, parents, staff and the nursery as a whole.

5. To ensure the smooth running of the nursery in line with company policy and Ofsted regulations.

6. To ensure the nursery team adhere to Rainbow Nursery ethos.

7. To facilitate, support, develop and maintain a variety of partnerships, at a range of levels with parents/carers, staff, Local Authorities and other outside agencies as necessary.

8. To lead, support and develop the Nursery Management Team to allow them to empower, role model, guide, coach/mentor and develop their own teams.

9. To work with the Owner and other Nursery agencies in a flexible manner.

10. To share ideas and information with the Owner on the day to day practice of the setting that will support continued improvement and development.

Key Areas

1. To use a range of leadership and management skills to support and empower the nursery team to develop their skills, knowledge and experiences (such as mentoring, role modelling, shadowing and peer observations etc).

2. To maintain a professional and supportive but challenging relationship with the Nursery Management Team and Directors.

3. To model leadership and management skills, develop team work, partnership working and to delegate where appropriate.

4. To take responsibility for the safe, legal and good practice of the nursery. This may include delegating responsibilities such as performance management, attending meetings, dealing with parents, finances, complaints etc.

5. To lead and support the nursery team through the Ofsted Inspection process.

6. To work with the Owner to meet all Administrative, Financial and Occupancy duties etc, associated with children, parents, staff and the nursery as a whole.

7. To have overall responsibility and a working knowledge of Rainbow Nursery’s Health and Safety documentation, Health and Safety at Work (Risk Assessments, COSHH, PAT testing, RIDDOR etc).

8. To lead, manage, support and empower the nursery team in delivering, reviewing and developing practice to ensure high quality standards of care and education.

9. To lead and support on the observation, assessment and planning process, including termly reviews (as a minimum) to ensure all children continually make progress.

To lead, manage, support and empower the nursery team to carry out their responsibilities in relation to all relevant paperwork and procedures, including Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Key Person, etc.
To lead on the development of partnership with parents and carers and involve them in their children’s learning, and to liaise with other professionals and outside agencies as appropriate.
To liaise with the nursery team, Owner, and other Rainbow Nursery staff members who can support you in your role.
13. To undertake training updates and other CPD opportunities requested by the Owner.
