About the job.

As Operations Manager, you will proactively lead a team of Team Managers and Operators based at the Regional Operations Centre (ROC), ensuring that we proactively operate the Strategic Road Network across the region. You will be accountable for the control room taking ownership of our customer's journeys and providing the best possible experience for our customers by directing and coordinating the deployment of available resources to maximise traffic flow and minimise the impact of planned and unplanned events on customers. The role will be a core part of the control room, being accountable for the operation and the management of regional resources including our contractors.

This position requires cover 24/7 and attracts a 12.5% shift allowance.

The successful candidate must live within a 1 hour commute of the Regional Operations Centre.

  • Provide 24/7 operational leadership of the region's Strategic Road Network, directing and coordinating the deployment of available resources to maximise traffic flow and minimise the impact of planned and unplanned events on customers
  • Proactively manage the region's network performance against agreed targets and performance indicators, and take action to mitigate known risks including; planned events, severe weather, major planned works etc.
  • *Act as National Highways Tactical Commander during critical incidents, making sure plans are in place and actions taken to ensure effective and safe resolution of network operational issues, proactively informing and assuring senior management as required
  • Build effective partnerships and relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g. regional emergency services) to enable the ROC to be more effective in operating alongside stakeholders
  • Be responsible for the regional control room team's performance, ongoing development and engagement; foster a culture which promotes high performance, recognises and develops talent, and upholds best practice people management

About you.

  • Experience of embedding a positive safety culture across all areas of responsibility
  • Previous line management experience of high performing teams, with a proven record of driving best practice/continuous improvement
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Knowledge of traffic and incident management practices, procedures and protocols
  • Operationally competent in incident and crisis management in a safety critical and customer focused operational environment

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
