The post is suitable for either medical or surgical doctors or clinical endoscopists with a minimum of 3 years experience experience in gastroenterology/endoscopy and will be based in the Endoscopy Department at the University Hospital of North Tees.
It is highly desirable that candidates are competent in independent gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Candidates must have previous experience of endoscopic audits and should be able to demonstrate an interest in endoscopy research.
The post can be discussed at interview but, as a guide, will comprise 4 endoscopy service lists per week, 3 flexible clinical session (either an additional endoscopy list or an out-patient clinic) and 3 non-clinical sessions.
The focus of the non-clinical sessions will be endoscopy-based research; previous post-holders have undertaken wide-ranging research including endoscopy RCTs, bowel cancer screening, surveillance, complex polyps, endoscopic complications, post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer, National Endoscopy Database and colonoscopy performance.
At North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust our main priority is, and always will be, to provide safe and high quality care to our patients every day; the kind of care we would want for ourselves and our loved ones. We want our organisation to be the best place to work with the right staff, in the right roles, at the right time, to ensure we deliver exceptional patient care and experience.
We will support staff through providing an inclusive and supportive workplace with health and well-being initiatives, staff benefits and opportunities for personal and professional development. Staff recognition is very important to us; as well as performance reviews and appraisals, we recognise staff through Star and Team of the month, colleague recognition – a note of thanks, Managers Awards, Shining Stars and Service Awards.
We support the Making Every Contact Count approach to behaviour change in the promotion of health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
We recruit for values and “Together we are North Tees & Hartlepool”
Previous fellows have completed MD theses, although this is not compulsory and depends on the wishes of the individual. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in endoscopy audits, teaching, training and endoscopy courses.
A willingness to be involved in training and supervision of junior medical staff is essential as is a flexible attitude to the changing needs of the service.
