As Dental Nurse, you will fulfil duties commensurate with the role within the Community and Specialist Dental Service, assisting in providing high quality primary clinical dental care for child and adult patients who cannot access a General Dental Practitioner. Care provided may include the full range of restorative and preventive NHS treatments including treatment under sedation, or from other setting e.g. other clinics, care establishments, schools, day centres and patients homes when appropriate. You may be required to participate in oral health promotion, dental screening and epidemiological.
You will be required to work with the oral health promotion team providing support to Care home and Schools 1 day a week
You will have chairside experience andideally hold the NEBDN National Certificate for Dental Nurses, NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 2 & 3, Diploma in Dental Nursing L3 or equivalent.
You willbe registered with the General Dental Council and have personal indemnity cover
Clinical
· Support clinicians in a wide range of different types of clinical treatments, within a range of settings e.g., clinics, patients’ homes, residential care and nursing homes, hospices and hospitals.
Communication
· Provide basic advice and information on oral health and sedation procedures using agreed protocols and advise on a range of dental procedures, adjusting information to address patients’ level of understanding.
Management and leadership
· To undertake other duties to meet the changing needs and priorities of the Community and Specialist Dental Service, as determined by your manager and in accordance with the grade of the post.

· Anticipate clinician needs and support patients during dental treatment.
· Responding to individual patient’s needs andprovide pre- and post-operative instruction when needed,ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
· Prepare the dental surgery andtemporary clinical environments outside of clinical areasfor use,ensuring the use of personal protective equipmentas defined by Trust Infection Prevention guidelines.
· Ensure correct clean instruments and equipment, x-rays, records and electronic records are available to the clinician prior to treatment.
· Provide clinical support for Inhalation and Intra-Venous sedation clinics - additional training will be provided if necessary.
· Follow local rules and Trust policies, including Infection Prevention, radiography and waste disposal and undertake the decontamination of dental instruments complying with HTM:01-05 guidelines to ensure patient safety,safe handling of sharps, drugs, harmful corrosive materials, waste mercury /amalgams and clinical waste.
