About us

As a people centred and values based organisation Salford Council really is a great place to work. With a positive permission culture and can do approach, we embrace innovation and encourage high performance. Our values of Pride, Passion, People and Personal Responsibility underpin everything we do and our employees demonstrate these values every day. We take pride in working together as #OneTeam by always supporting one another - that's the spirit of Salford!

Our Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) function is led by Steven Fry, Director of Digital and Customer Services and voted one of the top Chief Information Officers (CIO) within the UK. We enable and support all parts of the council as well as partner organisations. We also work regionally with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and nationally with the Local Government Association (LGA) and other central government bodies. DDaT's portfolio ranges from data analysis and insight to monitoring cyber security and protecting our digital assets, and from leading the development of software and modernisation to providing project management expertise, all whilst ensuring digital inclusion is at the forefront.

Due to a growing portfolio we have a number of exciting opportunities based within DDaT but working across the whole organisation. You’ll be part of a thriving programme management office, and you will be able to shape and develop your skills and make a real difference to the organisation and the city.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about delivering excellent service to our customers by providing strong, effective and supportive project management skills, ensuring rigour and governance is embedded in your approach. You will embrace change and understand how to support teams through this.

About you

You need to be up for a challenge as this isn’t going to be easy - we are looking for critical thinking, proactive and innovative individuals to help drive forward the projects and workstreams that form part of the Innovate Salford programme, which has innovation at the heart. You need to be comfortable to work at pace, balancing competing priorities to provide high-quality project support and management of risks, issues and project benefits.

You’ll be able to build strong relationships and generate positive collaboration, whilst always staying focused on outcomes. You will embody our values of Pride, Passion, People and Personal Responsibility, and will be tenacious, positive and resilient with the ability to manage competing priorities.

You will be working with senior officers across the organisation and will act as the first point of contact for your workstream, working closely with the Project Managers and the wider team. You will manage administrative support for this project, and provide support for the effective planning, co-ordination, governance and delivery of the overall programme.

About the role

You will be responsible for supporting a number of projects and will work closely with your Project Manager to deliver the defined outcomes.

You will support the documentation, plans, co-ordination, monitoring and satisfactory completion of assigned projects maintaining a strong focus on delivery priorities with robust monitoring in place.

You will be proactive, with the ability to work independently, prioritising a busy workload and a large number of stakeholders, being able to work flexibly in line with changing demands.

What will you get from us?

You’ll be coached, mentored and supported to develop your project officer career and you’ll be exposed to organisational wide transformation initiatives. You’ll be part of a supportive, nationally recognised Digital, Data and Technology department, where everyone is encouraged and empowered to personally develop and achieve their best in an inclusive and flexible environment. We will support you to undertake an apprenticeship, so from day one you’ll have access to professional development to help you to get on and succeed in your new role. This will include an immediate opportunity to gain a level 4 qualification in project management.
