The Governing Body of Plymouth Grove Primary School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead their Learning Retreat, a small group inclusion hub for children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 with complex special educational needs.
The postholder will play a vital role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, working closely with the SENDCO to raise achievement and support pupils' academic and personal development.
In the first instance, this is a temporary position for one academic year. However, there may be the opportunity for this to become a permanent position for the right candidate.
The key responsibilities of the postholder are:
- To assist the SENCO with designing individualised support plans and a bespoke curriculum.
- To lead in the delivery of an adaptive curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils.
- To support pupils with complex needs to enhance and promote their independence.
- To support pupils to develop effective communication and social interaction skills.
- To ensure good working relationships with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the pupils’ care and promote team working and good working relationships with colleagues.
- To be proactive with classroom organisation, including developing effective visual supports and resources.
- To maintain regular and appropriate records as directed, following the school’s policies.
- Help maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment for all learners.
- To lead and coach additional support staff.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a knowledge and understanding of the EYFS framework as well as the National Curriculum.
- Be a confident and caring individual who can lead classes and support pupils independently.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have the ability to inspire and motivate pupils of all abilities.
- Have experience supporting primary-aged children with a variety of complex special educational needs.
- Be energetic and have a good sense of humour.
- Be compassionate, patient, nurturing and committed to supporting children with SEND
- Be a great communicator and team player with a positive and proactive approach
- Be flexible and open to change.
- Have excellent verbal communication skills
- Hold HLTA status (or be working towards it)
