EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY
Statement of Philosophy
Severn Care Club believes in equality of opportunity and seeks to actively combat people’s experience of discrimination and disadvantage. We will work to eliminate discrimination or privilege of any sort on the grounds of race, disability, age, religion, belief and non-belief, sexual orientation, gender language. We aim to cultivate a harmonious, inclusive environment, which will foster respect for the individual’s personal choices and promote fairness for all.
We believe that
Each person should feel valued for who they are and the skills that they bring to our club.
We promote good citizenship, integration, equality of opportunity and participation in the local and wider community whilst celebrating cultural diversity.
Children are made aware that people may have different ideas, practices and lifestyles, but that whatever they choose is equally legitimate within the laws of the country.
How we express ourselves and carry out our business can sometimes offend others, but that we can show sensitivity to this in our service delivery where appropriate, without limiting or compromising the play opportunities on offer.
Although it is important our practices, policies and procedures must comply with legislative requirements, they do not discriminate for or against any section of the community.
We do not make assumptions about people that could affect how we treat them.
Where the welfare of the child is in conflict with religious or cultural practices, the wellbeing, and rights of the child will take precedence.
This philosophy is fundamental to Severn Care Club and we endeavour to ensure that it is practically applied at all levels. In addition to this policy, we adhere to the Cardiff Council Equal Opportunities Policy.
Safeguarding and Child Protection are key priorities for the Council. We aim to support children and vulnerable adults to ensure they are as safe as they can possibly be. Our services and schools are committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and vulnerable adults, and will take action to safeguard their well-being, and acknowledge that children and vulnerable adults have a right to protection. This is supported in the general ethos of the Council and all schools.
As an equal opportunities employer, we value diversity. Therefore, although not a requirement for application, we welcome and encourage applications from underrepresented individuals including those:
• aged under 25;
• not in employment, education or training;
• from our local communities including in particular disabled individuals, carers and those from the Cardiff BAME and LGBT+ communities;
