Crynodeb
The purpose of the Young Carers Schools Worker role is to support schools to achieve the Young Carers in Schools Award. The role works closely with schools, students, and relevant stakeholders to create an inclusive and supportive environment for young carers. The role will mainly focus on the secondary school provision due to the higher number of students in those settings. Responsibilities: Identification and Awareness: Collaborate with school staff to raise awareness and identify young carers within their school community. Develop strategies to ensure a proactive approach to identifying and supporting young carers. Training and Education: Provide training sessions for school staff to enhance their understanding of young carers' needs and challenges. Facilitate workshops and assemblies to promote empathy, understanding, and peer support. Individual Support Plans: Work with internal and external young carers support providers and liaise with teachers to implement necessary adjustments and accommodations to ensure a positive school experience. Involvement in School Policies: Collaborate with school leadership to integrate young carer-friendly policies and practices into their school's overall framework. Advocate for the inclusion of young carer perspectives in decision-making processes. Promoting Wellbeing: Organise activities and events that promote the mental and emotional wellbeing of young carers in schools. Help schools establish a support network within schools, fostering a sense of community among young carers. Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly assess the impact of support initiatives on young carers and the school community. Provide feedback to school leadership and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of young carers and the support provided.
