A Vacancy at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for a fixed term locum 10PA consultant appointment for 12 months with a view to delivering free flap based breast reconstruction at NNUH along with support for the developing lower limb trauma service.

Breast surgery is a thriving service within our department with three other whole time consultants delivering a complete service for delayed and immediate reconstructions. It is supported by a dedicated MDT, breast cancer CNSs and the department as a whole. Lower limb reconstruction has recently been developed as a standalone sub-specialty and continues to develop. An orthoplastic MDT and ward round supervises the process with support from the rest of the department. The unit functions as part of the regional trauma network and the trust has aspirations to develop this further as a major trauma centre.

The department has a dedicated outpatients department with the administrative staff and offices adjacent. The department runs multiple all day general anesthetic inpatient lists per week. There are also numerous local and regional anaesthetic lists and daily ambulatory trauma list. Microsurgical reconstruction forms a significant part of the department’s workload with over 100 free flaps undertaken per year. The appointee will be provided with an office, computer, internet access and secretarial support which may be shared.

Please find the proposed job plan in the Job Description attached for further details.

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.

All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.

The appointee will be a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and be expected to serve on this committee.

Further, the appointee will support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, whereby all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.
