JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 77 year old retired approved social worker who has Parkinson’s disease and mild dementia. I am registered disabled and have balance issues, so use a walking aid to move around my home.

Ideally, I am looking for an individual with a good sense of humour who likes to laugh as much as I do. I am friendly, outgoing and have lived a very full and interesting life, but take great pleasure in hearing about other people lived experiences too.

I am looking for a female PA who can assist me to live a dignified, Independent life who will treat me with respect, while my loving family works during the day.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide a range of physical, personal and domestic duties which will enable me to maintain as much independence as possible whilst having regard to my significant mobility challenges and at times, memory impairment.

PLACE OF WORK

At the home I share with my daughter and grandson in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan

HOURS OF WORK

Up to 10 Hours to be split across week days. Occasional weekend work might also be required.

This split can be arranged in a flexible manner between the PA and I.

I need someone who can be flexible enough to provide holiday cover when my other PA is on annual leave.

RATE OF PAY

£14.60 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

a) Assistance with showering.

b) Washing and drying hair.

c) Changing clothes including underwear and sanitary products

d) Dressing and choosing clothes for the day should it be requested.

e) Prompting medication from a prepared pill box

f) Assistance accessing the car or other travel vehicles including supervision when using zimmer frame outside of the house.

g) Assisting with some aspects of eating, such as cutting up food

h) Ensuring I have access to sufficient hot and cold drinks

i) Carrying out general domestic cleaning tasks around the house.

j) Preparation of meals when required.

k) Providing mental stimulation and rewarding social interaction.

l) Encouraging whenever possible and safely, activities outside of the home. As a minimum, supporting me to access the rear garden.

m) Administrative tasks as required.

n) Taking me out for walks in the wheelchair

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

The person should be tolerant and respectful of my physical disability and memory recall. Both can be slow on occasion. Some basic knowledge of the effects of Parkinsons disease would be desirable as it would give an insight into the frustrations of living with the condition.

They should be adaptable and recognise that although I have significant challenges, I am capable of making my own choices and can self- advocate. Ideally, a Personal Assistant who is a good communicator, has a breadth of knowledge and is conversationally stimulating would be a good match for the me.
