This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.

In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Department.

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).
This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

Warwickshire College Group is one of the largest FE colleges in the UK. We have six centres offering a range of vocational subjects with over 20,000 enrolments. The Moreton Morrell Centre is 8 miles from Royal Leamington Spa and is mainly devoted to programmes within the land-based sector.
Moreton Morrell College has led FE and HE equine education in this country for over 40 years and the Programme Area offers a range of Equine, Farriery courses from entry level to degree. It has sustained this position due to its innovative nature and has a strong tradition of academic rigour combined with a heavy emphasis on practical competence which has resulted in high levels of student achievement on the range of courses.

The Equine Centre plays an important role in the delivery of quality resources and services for both teaching and commercial needs. Events are run utilising the equine resources and many students bring their own horses to college with them on a DIY basis.
This role will provide excellent opportunity for training and development in the Equine industry and the person will have the opportunity to ride. The work is varied, challenging and rewarding and offers scope for personal development. There may be some flexibility in days and hours worked and the person will work alongside a small and dedicated team of professional staff. There is also the opportunity to ride horses and receive horse riding training.

MAIN TASKS

● Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a professional and immaculate image and high standards of the Equine Centre, horse management and welfare.
● Create an environment that will enable students to achieve their full potential in relation to facilities and resources available to them and support the teaching staff.
● Assist with the Equine Centres commercial enterprise to ensure successful delivery for all stakeholders.
● Assist with the effective operation and professional nature of the Equine Centre.
● Help develop students who are assisting with yard duties and assisting with commercial events.
● Be aware of and follow the Equine Centre Health & Safety Guidelines and encourage others to do.
● Follow health and safety processes and procedures.
● Maintain at all times a professional high standard of tidiness and cleanliness of equipment, facilities and horse welfare.
● Assist in providing health, care and safety of all horses on College property.
● Attend team meetings where required.
● Assist in developing this area of work


OFFERS OF WORK

For the successful candidate a conditional offer of work will be made. Our offer of work will be conditional upon a number of mandatory pre-employment checks, to include but not limited to: DBS, Barred List check, right to work check, internet search, TRA check (academic posts).

Essential Attainments

● A willingness to work with large animals.
● Ability to do physical work in an outdoor environment.
● Be able to work using own initiative and demonstrate adaptability.
● Industry experience and practical competences from a range of Equine areas.
● A relevant vocational qualification at Level 3.
● Practical DIY skills and the ability to use machinery.
● Familiarity with all relevant risk assessment and Health and Safety procedures.
● Flexibility and a willingness to work weekends, evenings and “education” holidays.
